9 Things That Went "Wrong" on My Own Wedding Day!

Today I wanted to share nine things that went "wrong" on my own wedding day with the hope that if you are reading this as a current bride or groom, you will be encouraged in knowing that things can and will go wrong on your wedding day, but with the right attitude and mindset these hiccups will only add more character, memories, and laughs to your day as you reminisce together after the fact. If you are working with a great coordinator or planner, many of these things you likely would not have even known were happening in the moment! I am firm believer that you are in control of the tone of your day and mindset plays a huge role! I encourage anyone currently planning a wedding to be detail-oriented, highly organized, and to OVER plan throughout your engagement, and then when your wedding day arrives... Let go, enjoy, celebrate to the fullest with your loved ones, and have peace in knowing that you have done everything you could to prepare.

1. Our original wedding date was supposed to be May 29, 2020... As you can imagine, with only two months' notice, we had to postpone and majorly re-plan our entire wedding day as well as all of the related events (bridal shower, bachelor/bachelorette parties, etc.) This was obviously the biggest challenge we faced throughout our planning process, however I am so glad to be able to look back and say that everything happens for a reason and our postponed, re-planned wedding day ended up being better and more true to us than I believe our original plan would have ever been. We had to cut our guest list in more than half (this was the most upsetting part of all for us), switch dates, and change our reception from an indoor ballroom setting to being in a tent outside on our venue's property.

2. I left my garter (my "something blue!") in the car and never put it on!

3. The floral arrangements for both of our moms were forgotten at the house and we didn’t realize it until it was too late to go back. They both carried makeshift bouquets that were supposed to be ceremony décor! I didn't even realize this until a friend told me months later and we laughed about it.

4. As I was getting out of the car, before we took any of our photos or had our first look, I spilled and stained the skirt of my dress! I will say for this one, I think my bridesmaids were more panicked than I was. We were able to scrub it out well and thankfully nothing was noticeable in photos!

5. During our ceremony, my husband's fingers swelled and the ring didn't fit on his finger! I tried to put it on and after a few tries, ended up just sliding it on his pinky. Again - we laughed and it is now just another moment that we remember and can smile about today!

6. The wrong part of our recessional song played as we were walking back down the isle.

7. We were so excited after our ceremony that we forgot we were supposed to be doing a receiving line and by the time we went back, half of our guests had already left their seats!

8. Our bridal party entrances and the earlier reception events were all delayed because we were missing one small cord connection needed for the microphone (or was it the speakers? I don’t even remember!).

9. Neither of us tried our own wedding cake! (This one is much more common than you think!)
